![]() We play this on a 1.6 x 0.8m table as shown in the photo which is a little bit small when you add the cards, snacks and drinks, so it is a very large board. A game on this map will last around 2 hours, or 1 - 1.5 if its very very quick play. We have played many many many scenarios to give it flavour, and this is the hands down winner, it is very fair, it is very balanced, very dynamic and very fun. (Eg, island 1 has a 6, island 2 has a 6 island 3 has an 8 and island 4 has none and a 8 is drawn for island 1, the new 8 is shuffled back in and a new number selected until island 4 has a 6 or an 8) If not all islands have either a 6 or an 8 and another is drawn as the 2nd is drawn, it is shuffled back in and a new number is drawn. If a island ends up with 3 of any resource, the last one of that resource is shuffled back into the random tile pool and a new one is selected We roll a d20 to chose who goes first (but you can do this however you want, but if using d6, i suggest using 2)įriendly robber is suggested but not required.ĭistance rule is suggested but not required. Normal cities, settlements, roads, ships, development cards and resource cards are used. Longest road and largest army are in play. The small island with the desert will have an additional port on it on the front middle facing side.įish play as normal as they do in seafarers.īoth Robert (as we call the robber) and the pirate ship are in play for this scenario. Only 4 of the 6 fish cost tiles are used, the other 2 will not be in play, these will always be on the back side of the small islands. When a tile is revealed, you receive a resource of that type (as normal). The main island (the size of the original catan island) remains hidden and unrevealed until explored. You ONLY start with settlements on the small islands. You can play without them but we found the game to be much more balanced when we added them in and its fun for all, rather than just those who got the right resources at the start and hoard them.Įdge pieces, 6 x long corner edges, 2 x end extension pieces, 4 x 2 straight extensions and 2 x 1 straight extension pieces. The tile setup is as below:Įdit: Fish are from Traders and barbarians. The setup of this required catan base, catan base 5-6 player expansion, catan seafarers base and catan seafarers 5-6 player expansion. We settled on what we have dubbed "Heading for old shores", pics can be found on my imgur post below: We got tired of the original board and randomising it, so we brought some more sets, and then when that got stale we came up with out own.
